GREATER HARTFORD NAPA AUTOCARE BDG

On December 9th, 2020, the Greater Hartford NAPA Auto Care B.D.G. (Business Development Group) awarded United States Navy veteran Danny Smith of Enfield, CT with a 2020 Ariens Platinum 24” SHO electronically fuel injected snow blower. In an ongoing effort to support our nation’s heroes, this annual giveaway to a Veteran is one of a few ways the group and the NAPA company show their appreciation. In observance of the Veteran’s Day holiday, all participating shops hosted a free raffle throughout the month of November in which any Veteran with a Military ID could fill out a voucher for a chance to win. The vouchers were collected on December 2nd and Mr. Smith’s name was drawn out of a pool of almost 100 participants. It is with great pride that the group was able to give back to someone who has done such great things for our country.

Danny Smith’s honorary military career consisted of 20 years of service in the United States Navy. After attending boot camp in the great lakes, he trained on a destroyer. He went on active duty in 1965 on the first guided missile cruiser USS Boston. During this time, he also served in the Middle East and various European countries. Part of this service was in the search for the missing “H bombs” off the coast of Spain. He was transferred to the submarine base in New London, CT in 1967 and was released from active duty in June of 1967. Afterward he was assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 27 Seabees and was in service there for 14 years. He retired in May of 1984. He is now a member of the John Maciolek Post 154 in Thompsonville. The continual dedication and service of individuals like Mr. Smith should inspire all of us. Thank you for your service!
